Barbara, the Edge AI Platform purpose-built for industrial environments, and Eximprod Engineering, an engineering company focused on energy automation and smart grids, today announced a strategic partnership to simplify secure, real time operations at the edge.

By combining Eximprod Engineering’s ES200 vRTU, a software based Remote Terminal Unit with Barbara’s scalable edge infrastructure, the partnership unlocks new possibilities for organizations to acquire and process field data from legacy and modern protocols, centrally deploy edge logic and visualization across distributed assets, and seamlessly integrate with enterprise systems.

As a result of the collaboration, ES200 vRTU is now available on the Barbara Marketplace, enabling utilities and industrial operators to deploy, orchestrate, and manage virtual RTUs with multi-protocol support, local automation, and power plant controller functions securely across distributed edge environments.

Advancing Grid Digitalization and Edge Operations

The partnership brings together two leaders with complementary strengths:

1. ES200 vRTU by Eximprod Engineering: A virtualized, software based RTU that redefines industrial edge and smart grid operations. It combines data acquisition, processing, and automation in one platform, supporting both modern and legacy communication protocols. With PLC logic for local automation and a modern Web HMI for full visibility and control, it transforms the way utilities operate and manage distributed assets.

2. Barbara’s Edge AI Platform:  enables industrial companies to securely deploy, manage, and scale data applications and AI models across distributed edge environments — ensuring real-time decision-making with cybersecurity.

By integrating these technologies, organizations benefit from:

- Unified device connectivity, centralized app deployment and lifecycle management at the edge.

- Local automation and HMI at the data source, with direct connection to enterprise systems.

- A portable solution that runs on diverse edge platforms.

Key Benefits

1. Secure Edge AI: Barbara’s platform processes data locally, eliminating cloud dependency and maintaining high security standards.

2. Centralized Management: Data collection and AI model deployment are orchestrated via intuitive web interfaces accessible from any device.

3. Scalable Architecture: Deploy and manage across [hundreds/thousands] of distributed edge nodes with minimal IT expertise.

4. Broad Industrial Protocol Support: Supports IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850 (Editions 1 and 2), DNP3, Modbus, and MQTT in both master and slave roles, ensuring seamless integration with legacy and modern systems.

5. Certified Power Plant Controller: Delivers active and reactive power control, frequency response, voltage regulation, and power factor operation, ensuring renewable energy plants such as solar and wind farms remain compliant with grid code requirements and support grid stability.

6. Cross-Platform Scalability: ES200 vRTU, combined with Barbara’s containerized approach enables large-scale deployment.

Leadership Perspective

“Together with Barbara, we are bringing intelligence and resilience to the very edge of the energy grid. This partnership is a step forward in our vision to build smarter, more secure, and future-ready infrastructures for our customers,” said Radu Vasile, CEO Eximprod Engineering.

“By leveraging Eximprod's virtual ES200 with Barbara's remote orchestration technology; software-defined RTUs can be remotely deployed at scale with just a few clicks said Peter Rawlins, VP Business Development  Barbara

ES200 vRTU  is now available on the Barbara Marketplace.

The integrated solution is now available on the Barbara Marketplace.
