The last 365 days have been another remarkable chapter of innovation, growth, and collective success at Barbara. As 2024 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who has been part of Barbara’s incredible journey this year.
Led by Iberdrola, the IA4TES project has successfully completed its three-year initiative (2022–2024), focusing on leveraging Artificial Intelligence to advance renewable energy generation, optimize distribution networks, and enhance customer-level operations. Barbara played a pivotal role by developing industrial edge software to deploy and orchestrate AI at the Edge, enabling smarter, more efficient energy solutions.
Barbara will adapt the edge computing firmware for Iberdrola´s substation sensorization and automation and will empower third parties to integrate their software solutions driving the future of Iberdrola´s digital grid.
Organizations across all industries are rapidly deploying edge computing to address challenges related to latency, cost of bandwidth, data sovereignty and control, or business continuity. Industry edge solutions address a variety of business outcomes through different use cases enabling digital transformation across industries. After initial deployments, organizations are starting to ask for vertically integrated edge computing solutions and packages more tailored to their specific needs according to the Gartner® Hype Cycle™ report for Edge Computing.
Aduriz Distribución, a leading electric power distribution company, identified a clear need to modernize its infrastructure. Partnering with Barbara, the company deployed Edge Computing in two low-voltage substations using Barbara’s Industrial Edge Platform. This initiative marks a major step toward substation virtualization, enabling Aduriz to enhance system performance and deploy real-time intelligence models that drive smarter, more efficient grid management.
